- Verbal Reasoning
Then comes verbal reasoning…
December 25, 2023
Problem solving is a precursor to verbal reasoning. Problem solving involves: assessing the situation, determining the problem, determining the solution, implementing the solution and assessing the outcome. While problem solving can occur without language, it requires life knowledge/experience/memories. Verbal reasoning on the other hand involves putting words to the above processes: being able to state the problem, verbally describe the impact of the problem, state the potential solutions, enumerate the possible outcomes, state the best solution, and offer an assessment of the outcome. While both problem solving and verbal reasoning confront problems, verbal reasoning is dependent upon both problem solving skills and a wide range of language skills (vocabulary, descriptive statements, complex sentence formation inclusive of causal statements and hypothetical statements, and reporting skills).
